Wearable technology and telehealth in stroke rehabilitation

  • As part of a home-based post-stroke rehabilitation program, participants (n=11) wore a wearable wristwatch and took part in a telerehabilitation program for upper limb training.
  • Usability for both the wristwatch and telerehabilitation system was rated highly with a mean System Usability Scale score of 84.3. Compliance with the program was high at 91%. Participants reported physical improvements and desire to exercise after using the wristwatch.
  • The authors concluded that the combination of a wearable wristwatch and telerehabilitation service offers a highly usable, favorable rehabilitation service following stroke.
