Vibrational perception in HIV-associated distal polyneuropathy as a function of frequency

  • While vibrational perception threshold (VPT) sensitivity is decreased in people with HIV-associated distal polyneuropathy (HIV-PN) at all tested frequencies, antiretroviral therapy (ART) correlates with improved VPT sensitivity at 25 Hz.

Why this matters

ART could help mitigate damage to low-frequency mechanoreceptors, as indicated by its beneficial effects on sensitivity to a vibration frequency of 25 Hz.
