Multi-national survey of stereotactic radiosurgery training in neurosurgery programs

  • Online survey responses indicated that the majority of neurosurgery residents gain exposure to stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) during rotations that are not focused on SRS and half of respondents believe that residents have low SRS competency at the completion of training.

Why this matters

Although the use of SRS has dramatically increased, several studies have reported inconsistencies in SRS training and low procedural competency of neurosurgery residents. It is imperative that neurosurgery programs offer adequate SRS training to residents, and additional large-scale studies may aid in stimulating such improvements in SRS training.
