The SPaRCNet algorithm: new advances in the digital world of epilepsy management

  • Automated tools to reliably classify seizures and other seizure-like events are limited. In an effort to reduce in-hospital deaths, the SPaRCNet computerized tool was used to predict ictal-interictal-injury-continuum (IIIC) events on electroencephalography (EEG) that matches the reliability and accuracy of neurophysiologists in identifying such events.
  • Data from this study proved that the SPaRCNet was effective in identifying IIIC events and was further able to match or exceed expert-level classification of seizures.
  • Following the success and further development of this automated tool, the authors suggest that SPaRCNet may be a useful tool for expedited review of EEGs.
