Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder with Parkinson’s Disease and brain atrophy

  • For the first time surface-based cortical and subcortical abnormalities are shown in people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) with and without rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD).

Why this matters

  • This study highlights a more severe neurodegeneration in co-morbid RBD in PD and provides neuroanatomical explanations for the associated more severe and aggressive clinical phenotype than in people with PD but without RBD.
