Takeaway
Pre-attack symptoms (PAS) are very common in patients suffering from cluster headaches in China. The number of triggers and a history of smoking are associated with increased odds of PAS. A smaller percentage of these patients also experience pre-episode symptoms (PES); the number of triggers is the only contributing factor to PES.
Why this matters
Recent studies have focused on PAS and PES in several countries around the world; however, despite the prevalence of cluster headaches in the Chinese population, it remains largely under-researched.
By understanding the rich clinical phenotypes, we can better predict the occurrence of headaches, optimizing prevention and treatment.
