Perivascular collagen I deposition is directly linked to lesions in multiple sclerosis

  • Vascular remodeling involving collagen I deposition is directly associated with lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS), and may affect oligodendrocyte differentiation.

Why this matters ?

  • Perivascular lesions (the ‘central vein sign’) that are detectable by susceptibility-based MRI are thought to occur in MS, and their role in pathogenesis is currently unknown: deeper understanding may have implications on therapeutic targets.
