Common genes and biological pathways shared by Parkinson’s disease (PD) with psychiatric disorders were reported at the EAN 2021 conference. The findings could help explain epidemiological associations and identify potential new targets for drug development, according to the researchers.
Dr Konstantin Senkevich from the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, reported the new findings. These were obtained from multistep genetic and transcriptomic association analyses for PD and psychiatric traits, derived from 16 pre-selected tissues (12 brain tissues, whole blood, and colon tissues), along with analysis of shared genetic architectures.
