Takeaway
Acute ischemic lesions (AIL) identified by magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) predict the 10-year recurrent ischemic stroke (RIS) risk after transient ischemic attack (TIA) or mild stroke (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale [NIHSS] score 0–1).
Why this matters ?
The ability to clearly determine increased RIS risk may help with identification of populations for inclusion in trials to evaluate interventions for secondary stroke prevention.
