Low concentrations of levetiracetam (LEV) are associated with seizure worsening in pregnant women with epilepsy (WWE).
Why this matters
A decrease in LEV concentration was linked to seizure worsening during pregnancy. Although LEV monotherapy has been recommended, the safety and efficacy of this anti-epileptic drug (AED) during pregnancy remains questionable.
Identifying the correct doses of LEV monotherapy during pregnancy may reduce the risk of worsened seizures in women.
