Identification of fall-related injuries among people with multiple sclerosis who use wheelchairs or scooters

  • It is well established that people with MS (PwMS) who use wheelchairs or scooters are more likely to experience falls, which may lead to physical impairments and poor quality of life.
  • This study demonstrated that 85.4% of falls experienced by PwMS happened inside the house, with fall-related injuries occurring during wheelchair transfers. Moreover, 45.8% of PwMS did not receive interventional resolutions to manage fall-risk.
  • According to the authors, data from this study supports the need for proper fall-risk management and additional clinical interventions to reduce fall-related injuries among PwMS.
