Hospitalization and readmission rates for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias

In a retrospective cohort study of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), 9.22% of hospitalizations were related to patients with ADRD. Readmission rates were also higher for individuals with ADRD than those without (21.5% vs 14.7%).
The authors concluded that hospitalization and readmission rates were higher for individuals with ADRD suggesting hospitals should be prepared for these individuals and develop strategies to reduce readmission.
