Different genetic variants identified in people with distinct multiple sclerosis phenotypes

  • This study examined the association of immune-related genetic variants and found differences in genetic variants between people with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS), relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), and healthy individuals (HI).

Why this matters ?

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a heterogenous disease, with poorly understood pathogenic processes; genetic association studies may aid in differential diagnosis of PPMS and RRMS by providing genetic markers of each MS phenotype.
