Development of a risk model for freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease

  • Freezing of gait (FOG) in early Parkinson’s disease (PD) is correlated with decreased CSF amyloid beta-42 (Aβ42), indicating amyloid deposition in the brain may contribute to the development of FOG.

Why this matters

  • The risk model in this study combining postural instability gait difficulty (PIGD) score, caudate dopamine transporter (DAT) activity, and CSF Aβ42 not only helps predict FOG in early PD with acceptable accuracy, but also implicates mechanisms underlying FOG.
