Takeaway
Changes in functional networks across a person’s lifespan clearly occur – with decreases in local functional connectivity in the visual networks (VN), sensorimotor network (SMN) and default mode network (DMN) and increases in basal ganglia network (BGN).
Why this matters
This is the first study to examine changes in functional networks across the lifespan and gain better knowledge on the possible mechanisms. These data push our current understanding and support future studies.
