A potential biomarker for predicting post-traumatic headache after mild traumatic brain injury

  • People with acute post-traumatic headache (APTH) following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) exhibit significant disruption to the periaqueductal grey (PAG)-seeded functional connectivity (FC) in the default mode network (DMN) area of the brain.

Why this matters

Disruption to the PAG-DMN FC could be used as predictive biomarker to identify mTBI patients at risk of developing persistent post-traumatic headache (PTH) 3 months after injury.
